LIBRARY AS A LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE
The Central Library of the DGC is renowned for its rich, rare and special collection since its inception. The library has more than 70000 books (excluding 25000 books of seminar libraries) as its core collection, comprises of all subjects being taught in the college along with many rare books related to Himalayan region and its ecology and culture. Currently the library is managed manually but very soon the will be transformed to automation system.
Total area of the Central Library is 4160 sq. ft.(approx.). The books are stacked in two floors of the building and the reading hall is attached with stack room which provides easy access to the required books.
At present, total number of current user is 3700 approx. The central library has seating capacity of 100 at the reading hall which is usually occupied from 10:30am to 4pm by the users for reference reading purpose. The library has multiple level reading spaces for the users. Reference books for each domain are available for users in the reading hall.

During vacations the Library remains closed as all the departments remain closed during winter vacation of Darjeeling.
The Central library has a very rich collection of textbook and reference books for its users comprises of all subjects being taught in the college. Beside major subject related books, the library has many other books related to;

Since last one year the central library has taken many initiatives to make the library more useful and tech-savvy. Once we become successful to implement the below initiatives, it will be a far better place to spend users’ valuable time.
College has a Library Sub-Committee having 16 members under Teachers’ Council. The composition of the sub-committee is provided below:
Library Sub-Committee organizes meetings for planning the development of Central as well as Departmental Seminar Library.
For departmental seminar library, respective departmental teaching staffs are appointed as Seminar Library-in-charge.
